PARENT COUNCIL COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Arts and Creativity
Mary Elizabeth Smith, Chair

The mission of this committee is to provide quality arts experiences that lead to creative thinking, open the heart and the mind, and promote a lifelong relationship with the arts. The committee focuses on developing an Arts-in-the-Schools program for students and faculty of CDS as well as connecting with community venues.


Communications

The Communications committee works to facilitate communication between the School and parents as well as to support the School’s relations with the community at large. Responsible for updating the sign at the main entrance of CDS.


Faculty & Staff Appreciation

This committee is devoted to expressing the appreciation of the parents for the faculty and staff.


Fall Family Night

An event that promotes a sense of community among school families through the primary social event in the fall; date corresponds to “Homecoming.”

Friends of the Library

This committee supports the campus libraries through an annual book fair, summer reading list fulfillment, volunteer coordination, and honoree book donations.

Holiday Breakfast
Missy Sullivan, Chair

Another event that promotes a sense of community among school families. Occurs the morning of the last day of school before Winter Holiday.

Kids Voting
Hilda Lee, Chair

This committee coordinates volunteers to participate in the Kids Voting program at the Biltmore Forest Poll.

Magazine Sales
Joni Davis, Chair

Coordinates magazine sales to raise money for faculty professional development.

Math and Science

This committee focuses on inspiring students in the areas of mathematics and the social, biological and physical sciences, through thought-provoking and entertaining lectures and workshops given by local and visiting scientists.

New Family Orientation
Denise Yarborough, Chair

Helping new families feel welcomed and informed about the school community is the responsibility of this committee. New Parent Orientation, the Ice Cream Social, Parent Ambassadors, the Buddy Program, and First-Year Family Coffee are some of the activities included.

Parent Education
Beth Cummings, Chair

This committee works to strengthen the partnership between parents and faculty so that children can make wise decisions in line with their development and maturity. The sessions offered throughout the year serve to provide a “toolbox” that will equip parents and faculty as they face issues, hand-in-hand with their children and students.

Sells school logo items and Ingles Gift Cards.
