As always, it has been a busy week at Carolina Day.
Here's just a sampling of some of what you might have missed.

Speeches for upper school student council executive positions were held this Tuesday. Eighth through twelfth graders attended and listened to well-prepared (and somewhat humorous) speeches from four candidates for president and two for vice-president. The elections were held yesterday. After all the ballots were counted, Clayton Armstrong earned the bid to serve as next year's president and Taylor Milner as vice-president. Congratulations.

Members of the upper school's Roots & Shoots Club have been working with the third graders this year. They have presented programs and completed various classroom projects together. This week Chase Pickering and his friends (human and animal) from "Wild for Life," a local center for the rehabilitation of wildlife, presented an audience-captivating presentation on birds of prey. Chase and his Wild for Life directors introduced several owls and a hawk to the wide-eyed audience.

The fifth graders invited the third graders into their Spanish class to watch a short play performed entirely in Spanish. Students did their own costuming (can't you tell?) and the staging.

As you can see, these third graders were enjoying the experience.

A couple of weeks ago the boys in middle school PE enjoyed the opportunity to learn a little breakdancing. And now it was time for the girls to do a little dancing of their own. The girls in all three middle school grades worked out their own dance routines and presented them to their peers. These photos are from some of the seventh-grade performers.

Tuesday was Pi Day. You might not have even realized there is such an event. Yep, Tuesday was March 14 and that equates to 3.14 which equates to the mathematical concept having to do with the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Okay, I'm not a mathematician, but that's pretty close. Eighth graders joined their third-grade buddies for some songs about Pi (of course there are such songs), worked out some Pi problems, and then finished by eating some pie.

We expect this event to gain in popularity over the years throughout the world.

Why not? Ninth-grade PE students came over to the lower gym and played parachute games with the PK students this week. The older kids and the younger kids enjoyed seeing just how much they have in common.

Is it Friday yet? This fifth grader thinks so.

and not only is it almost Friday, it's time for spring break. Enjoy.
