Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day. The Upper School Student Council's Blood Drive was a big success. The Red Cross collected a total of 32 pints with the help of students, faculty, staff, and parents. A total of 47 actually made the effort to give, including 21 students. There were 11 first-time donors. All in all, 59 CDS community members were involved in the blood drive. Thanks very much for helping us meet our goal. There will be another chance this spring.
Thanksgiving is big everywhere, but the kindergartners really know how to throw a party! They dressed up as Native Americans or Pilgrims and invited a few special guests to join them at their feast.
As you can see, their meal looked good enough to eat!
Of course, they added a modern touch to this traditional occasion. Carol Keenan was on hand to dish out a squirt of antibiotic hand cleaner. I doubt the Pilgrims had any of that.
The Chief Pilgrim, Bev Sgro, was an honored guest.
The eighth graders and their third-grade buddies got together before the Thanksgiving break to work on a special art/math problem. It was a nice way to spend a little time with special friends.
The American Adventure Service Corps made a presentation to our third through eighth graders about their program which combines adventure activities, experiential education, and service learning into a full-year filled with meetings, monthly trips, community service projects, and an extended summer adventure.
The entire group came together at the end of the program to participate in a group initiative to lift a student off the gym floor with a bunch of ropes. It was an impressive feat.
A teacher or two also got to experience the ride.
Click for more information on Another group of middle schoolers and lower schoolers got together for a buddy activity. The first graders invited their sixth-grade buddies down to prepare a little candy surprise that would be packed with the food on upcoming meals-on-wheels dinners. The students enjoyed making the treats as much as their recipients will be to have them.
