Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day. These upper school juniors and Mr. Mouer are in New England this very minute on a college scouting trip. They left at the end of the school day on Tuesday and will spend the next several days visiting various universities.
We start 'em young. Here first-grade teacher Debbie Lanier gives instructions to a set of first graders who are about to run their own parent-student conferences. Each student shares some work with his or her parents, discusses some of things they're doing in class, talks about some improvements that might be needed, and gives a wonderful kids' insight into their school day and year. Mrs. Lanier is there to check on each group, moderate the discussion, and answer questions from parents.
It's that time. These lower school boys are taking a break from walking and walking and walking. They are all participating in the 100-Mile Club which encourages students in the third through fifth grades to walk or run 100 miles before the end of the school year. It's a great habit to acquire, and each year dozens of students participate.
Spring finds many of our students involved in some keen academic competition. These upper school girls are working on a Science Olympiad project for the upcoming event.
Team advisor Bill Wolfe shares a laugh with this group. The Science Olympiad will be held in a couple of weeks.
These upper school students look very serious, but they're enjoying practicing for the upcoming regional math competition. CDS has a true dynasty in these competitions racking up first and second-place finishes for the past decade or more. Advisor Candy Hardy provides popcorn to keep them fed, but they need no other motivation!
This senior, a member of the math team, is showing off his new senior class t-shirt. Each class was sporting a special t-shirt today. You can see a freshman t-shirt in the picture above.
Taekwondo has been a school-day and after-school offering for many years taught by upper school teacher Joanne Bartsch. The April issue of Bell Notes will list the latest belt promotions from across the school community. These are some of the younger students who participate each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
