Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day.
Twelve fourth- and fifth-grade Key students are currently learning the basics of criminal investigation while sharpening their critical thinking skills in the latest criminology class. Mr. Jonathon Snow, real-live agent with the Asheville office of the FBI, came in last week to talk about fingerprints and fingerprinting. Each student had the opportunity to be fingerprinted by Mr. Snow.
Then it was time to see what it's like to have a mug shot taken. Don't worry, these students were enjoying this experience and had their photos taken in the safety and security of the Key School. This guy looks like he's having fun.
This guy strikes a more familiar pose.
This student finds the whole process a wee bit amusing.
And finally... a real nab. The surprise collar of the day was the capture of this suspect. Turned out we had actually caught the suspect's identical twin, Diane Milner, principal of the Key School. Mrs. Milner was released from custody after her fingerprints were taken and her identity firmly established.
Mr. Snow is shown unlocking the handcuffs. Mrs. Milner was happy to have had this misunderstanding cleared up.
Teacher Alison Perez receives her recognition from Mr. Snow.
Key students get to choose from a variety of Talents offerings throughout the year. Criminology is just one. These students were in a group learning how to make and play old-fashion games that their grandparents used to play.
Middle school students start their day with advisory periods where small groups meet to discuss school issues, world affairs, or just goof off for a few minutes before starting their daily grind. These girls were discussing some really thought-provoking questions.
And these girls were doing the same.
These boys were in the middle of a mini-basketball tournament when they were interrupted to pose for the photographer.
And while this was happening, Mr. Douglas was spending his few minutes teaching his crew a true life-skill--how to tie a necktie.
The boys quickly got the hang of it. And this sixth grader even tied a bow tie.
It will be here before you know it. The 2007 CDS Auction, Some Enchanted Evening, will be held on April 14. Start making plans now. These second graders are already working hard on their class project to be auctioned. This year's big event will be held at Deerpark on Biltmore Estate.
It's got to be a slow news day when I show a photo of students turning in their lunch orders. But hey, it's just one of the daily events around CDS.
