Biography

I grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, just outside Detroit. I earned by BA in English at Kalamazoo College (from where I was lucky enough to study abroad for one year in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa). I earned my Masters in Education from the University of New Mexico. I have taught for 21 years, mostly in middle schools. I taught English in southern France for one year and environmental education in Massachusetts for two years. I have lived and taught in New Hampshire, New Mexico and North Carolina. I live with my sister and two adorable dachshunds. This is my seventh year teaching here at CDS. I enjoy working with middle schoolers; they energize me! I love to read, walk, bake (and eat the results), watch movies, travel, and write poetry.
